Championship Finals Day – 2021

Sunday June 20th 2021

The weather was kind to us in the end on finals day (Saturday 19th June) with only the odd light shower to dampen the proceedings.

Many thanks go out to the organising team, all the referees who volunteered, the bar staff and the catering team that made the day a success. And a special vote of thanks to Niall, who came along to take the photographs you will see below.

We had 7 championships decided on June 19th.  The gents champion for 2021, winning his 8th title overall is Stuart Thorburn. Here he is pictured below (right) with Runner up Nathan Corbett, having been presented with the trophy by Captain Bert Craig.

The Ladies champion is our ladies captain and wife of our photographer Niall, who made a storming finish to her match to come out on top. Here she is pictured (far right) alongside runner up Barbara Hamilton (far left) along with their caddies and referee for the day (left to right – Fiona Robertson (Barbara’s caddie), Jill Black (ref), and Ann Cockburn who was on Margaret’s bag)

The Senior champion was David Paterson who played more holes than anyone else during the qualifying stages, as he also reached the semi-final of the main championship before losing out to Nathan. He overcame Fraser Jervis in their final.  Fraser wasn’t available for the photo – but here is David with his well-earned prize

The A Class championship finished with a victory for Andy Pratt, pictured here with runner-up Philip Mulligan

And in the B Class, Gary Davidson emerged as the winner, with Mark Donaldson the runner-up this year

In the C Class final we had to go to an extra hole to find out the winner – with Bob Lithgow coming out on top in the end over Keith Wright – Pictured below are (left to right) Robert Lyall (ref), Jim Bunce (caddie for Bob) Bob with the trophy, Keith our runner-up and Bruce Reynolds who was on the bag for Keith.

And in the Ladies Bronze championship it was Helen Duff who won through, beating Jean Johnstone in another closely contested final, that required 2 extra holes. Here they are pictured below (left to right)  Mary Cowan (caddie for Jean), Jean our runner-up, Karen Elliot (ref), Our winner Helen, and her caddie John Goodman

And if you’d like to know how they made it through the match-play rounds, here are all the completed draws
